NEW: Twitter is planning to unveil a new policy as soon as this afternoon that only Blue subscribers will be able to use SMS-based two-factor authentication, according to company sources.— Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer) February 17, 2023
Two factor authentication is cool and good actually. You could argue twitter shouldn't have it because it's just dumb social media but for important stuff it's actually really vital to have it in place.
Just using passwords is insecure as hell because people are shit at both choosing them and keeping them secret.
boy I sure love to have to have a new password every month for my bank account because I forget what they are and only have 3 attempts before it's fucking locked and needs to be changed and can't use an old one EVER so I can't just have A FUCKING PASSWORD THAT I REMEMBER because it HAS TO BE DIFFERENT EVERY FUCKING TIME
can't wait to have TWENTY SEVEN DIFFERENT FUCKING ACCOUNTS FOR THINGS ALL SUBJECTED TO THE SAME
Half the time I use 2FA I have to go hunt down the mobile which has shit service in my work area or the 3rd party contractor used for 2FA , which is a whole crap-it-all-ist industry now. didn't feed their server hampsters [insert spongebob time card] when I just need to do 2 minutes of work.
My father had his Amazon account hacked even though he had 2FA. I've just had a shitty experience with it. On paper I can see the practicality / concept of it, but in operation it hasn't been smooth, has it's bugs, and it isn't bulletproof. Just sharing not trying to make a huge argument over it.
Oh great only paying customers will have the privilege of being annoyed doubly every time you want to log in.

on the other hand SMS is the absolute worst way to do 2FA, TOTP is much better
Unfortunately, it's reliant on the cell network, which if it goes down I can't access my welfare payments.
Also, sometimes it takes several hours for my sms code to come in, and then it doesn't work.
I realise these are problems outside of the 2FA, but I'd rather not have it for a lot of vital things. It's fine for unnecessary things.
Fuck 2fa, and fuck policies that prohibit using an old password

For important things, but when every useless app has it it's just aggravating.
Yubikeys are the ideal way to handle 2fa but it's a lot of responsibility many people aren't ready for
I am not paying $100 to make it more annoying to log in
after a year it's cheaper than twitter blue
I am giving back to my community due to Covid-19!
All Bitcoin sent to my address below will be sent back doubled. If you send $1000 I will send back $2000!
