    Its to distinguish him from his dad who was President eight years earlier.

    Sort of like how they refer to Franklin Roosevelt as FDR and Theodore Roosevelt as Teddy Roosevelt, rather than just saying "President Roosevelt" and hoping you know which one they're discussing.
