SFM animators looking at their meal tickets for the next couple of months
Actually- wouldn't it be kinda weird to be a character artist and know whatever female character you made, regardless if you intended them to be sexualised or not, is just gonna be turned into a virtual porn star :thinking-about-it:
On one hand, I think this has always happened- people will develop horny feelings for anything and everyone. Nothing you can do about someone drawing smut about characters they like. The thing that's changed is that there's a cottage industry of smut artisans, but I guess porn animations are different from 2D artists since they are directly using the assets from the original work.
This has absolutely always happened. There are pornographic spoofs of all kinds of visual media going back hundreds of years, and before that there were pornographic poems and stories riffing on popular contemporary tales. iirc a lot of political pamphlets back in the early modern and medieval period had some kind of smut included to get people interested. I wouldn't be shocked if some wood block carver was stamping out Tale of Genji erotica a month after the first copies of the book started circulating.
It's probably different when it's the same exact character model you spent hundreds of hours 3D scanning, mocapping and rigging, especially when big budget modern games tend to use real human actors as bases for their models, and especially, as I said, if the character isn't even meant to be seen as sexy in any way. And especially especially if the character is underage
I mean, not really. There's been a general trend away from booba hot being the driving force behind female character design since the mid-2000s. Obviously, eyecandy characters still exist but a random female side character in a major Western game is far less likely to have giant gazongas and a shirt that's halfway unbuttoned these days. That's what all the backlash against hair on the Horizon lady's face was all about.
Not so much that they have hyper-exaggerated features and sexually suggestive clothing, but I really would be shocked if big productions didn't consciously consider how characters will appeal to different demographics of people with different sexualities and preferences. Like when they're sitting down for planning someone's going to be like "Okay we need a twink, a bear, a dad bod, a muscle mommy, a tomboy, a well dressed prettyboy, a hunk, a high femme" etc when they're designing their line up.

Friend of mine made a game whose character shows up in porn now.
Their reaction has been: "didn't think I'd see my character with such big feet"
And
"I made this other character hot on purpose I can't wait for all the porn I'm gonna get for free."
I assume that's an important part of the design process for all characters after how important Overwatch porn was to it's popularity.
