I'm Bayard Rustin , an African American leader in social movements for civil rights, socialism, nonviolence, gay rights... and neoconservativism.
Rustin served as chairman of Social Democrats, USA, which, The Washington Post wrote in 2013, "was a breeding ground for many neoconservatives".
Socdems. Not even once
Rustin supported the bombing of palestine by israel in his later life iirc
Damn. I just had a cursory knowledge of Bayard Rustin as a communist and I thought he was much cooler.
In 1976, Rustin was a member of the anti-communist Committee on the Present Danger (CPD), founded by politician Paul Nitze. Nitze was a member of Team B, the independent analysts commissioned by George Bush to scrutinize the CIA's assessments of the Soviet nuclear threat. CPD promoted Team B's controversial intelligence claims about Soviet foreign policy, using them as an argument against arms control agreements such as SALT II.[58] This cemented Rustin's leading role in the neoconservative movement.
I gave “critical support” to the US military intervention in Vietnam, I opposed arms control agreements with the Soviet Union, and I supported the deployment of the apartheid South African army to fight the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola.
Holy shit how is this person in any way a part of the “peace movement”? Like when was this guy actually in favour of peace if he even supported vietnam?
