Neat video digging into the historical origins and changing conception of the Abrahamic God. This is something I've been curious about for a long time and recently, so it was cool to see this pop up in my videos today.

the old testament literally records the destruction of the gods Israel inherited from Canaanite culture (including Yahweh's wife Asherah) during the transition from polytheism, to henotheism, to monotheism, that would eventually become Judaism. Whenever you see the King James Version of the bible mention people tearing down "groves" that is a bad translation referring to tree totems made to honor the goddess Asherah, consort of Yahweh.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asherah_pole

Exodus 34:13 states: "Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherim [Asherah poles]."

Yeah the video touches on this a bit with the consort stuff. Also makes the point what it was post-exile that the monotheistic form of the religion really took.

I finally finished watching this. It took a while because I was busy. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

Is there a decent translation somewhere? The KJB is a snoozefest but I'm interested in the bible from a historical angle.

Or maybe a history of religion in the middle east from origins to modern day. I don't know much about the pre-monotheism cultures.
