I don’t remember who said it (might of been on here?), but I agree more with the take that the movement Jesus was part of is probably better understand as analogous to a modern liberal/reformist movement which becomes more preeminent once the more radical, violent Jewish groups are crushed with the defeat of the Maccabees in 37BCE.
The comparison works on a lot of levels, especially since Christianity was completely coopted by the Roman state once the movement picked up steam.
