The site moderation was never the issue, the US just wants to monitor all social media activity themselves, and Facebook's lobbying made that desire actionable. That's why they won't ban Tiktok if it's sold to a US buyer.

It’s theft plain and simple. Other than some private equity group who in the US could buy TikTok? Twitter has no money, no stock. Snap is a joke. Google I guess maybe, but they have a competing product. Meta makes the most sense.

Constrain the market for buyers and force a sale, Meta basically gets to set the price. They buy it on the cheap with inflated stock and suddenly they have a growth platform again after pissing away billions on the metaverse.

Then there’s the added incentive of GMen being able to control the platform. We know there is a tight relationship between alphabet agencies and social media networks. Not sure how it works w TikTok but I imagine Chinese parent ownership makes it trickier.

China should return the favor. Maybe force US automakers to sell their factories there at a loss. Or better yet nationalize them. Quid pro quo.

Of course that’s also how you get bombed.
