Nebraska Democratic state Sen. Megan Hunt vowed to filibuster every bill for the rest of the legislative session after the Nebraska Legislature advanced a bill that would ban gender-affirming care for people under 19.

The legislation, sponsored by Republican state Sen. Kathleen Kauth, would ban minors from seeking gender confirmation surgery and hormone treatments — issues that could impact Hunt's transgender son. She discussed her son and his testimony in committee on Wednesday and to the wider body the next day.

...

"If this bill passes, all your bills are on the chopping block, and the bridge is burned," Hunt warned the chamber.

"We have made it clear that this is the line in the sand," Hunt said to lawmakers on Thursday.

"People have said, 'What if we go after your bills? What if we put a bunch of bills introduced by progressives up on the agenda? Are you going to filibuster those, too?' Yes, because we're not like you," Hunt explained. "We have a principle and a value that actually matters that much to us that we're willing to stand up for."

Hunt was scolded over her stance by Republicans, who said her pushback set a bad precedent.

"You really don't get it," Hunt said to Republican state Sen. R. Brad von Gillern. "You've crossed a line and you've gone too far."

"Don't say hi to me in the hall, don't ask me how my weekend was, don't walk by my desk and ask me anything. Don't send me Christmas cards ― take me off the list," Hunt warned. "No one in the world holds a grudge like me, and no one in the world cares less about being petty than me. I don't care. I don't like you."

Critical support.

Yeah, I’ve been seeing this one for a while. I thinks it’s 2-3 senators who’ve been holding it up for weeks?

Yeah in the article they say there's three other democratic senators who plan to filibuster in solidarity.

To be clear though they're not threatening to just filibuster this bill, but all bills for the entire session if this bill gets passed.

Uncritical support for this mother, her bill proposals for free meals and services for incarcerated mother's were shot down and it's absolutely disgusting that the chuds of the Nebraska legislature are trying to call her someone who wants to hurt children.

Also the Republicans who had reservations on Hormone Therapy language are probably injecting testosterone.

“People think, well, ‘You’re not gonna get your stuff passed.’ I was never gonna get my stuff passed. Ever. None of them were ever going to let me pass a bill. That’s a problem of their own making. They decided they were going to take everything away so that I had no reason not to fight. And they succeeded. They did a great job of that.”

    exactly. what a badass.

I think she mentioned she has a trans child and has mentioned at length how this would put his life in danger. These people are fucking demons to have someone that close to them say "don't kill/hurt my child" only for them to turn around and tone police her. Really shows what we're up against.

They don't just want to kill anyone they deem as prey, they want to force their prey to automatically forgive them like they are some poorly written Mary Sue that treats everyone like garbage but is loved by their victims anyway.

I feel like a lot of this website has never actually talked to Democrats before. Most of them are way more left of the party, just have brainworms about staying loyal to the Dems.

To all you folks that think the Democrats have your best interests at heart... Try disagreeing with them and see what happens.

Sad that the super based Ernie Chambers isn't there to participate. They literally passed term limits to get him specifically out of office. He came back the next election, but was term limited again in 2020.

i know of Ernie Chambers because Nebraska was trying to ban certain types of lawsuits, probably to put an end to things like suits over disability claims or racial discrimination, so Ernie Chambers rejected this and demonstrated how serious he was by filing a lawsuit against God Himself

      this man is a legend

also apparently the lawsuit against God was properly filed, but then dismissed because God has no permanent address lmao

I wonder if that's a universal rule or just what they could come up with that didn't deny that god exists. Like surely you could file some sort of civil suit against a homeless person if you're a deranged sociopath. The courts criminally charge them without a fixed address.
