What's up fellow gamers, just wondering if there are any other mtg players here that are interested in doing webcam games over spelltable/discord? I've been playing a lot on various servers but it would be very fun to have a consistent playgroup of chill people if anyone else is interested.
Nope. Not a single other person on here has ever played MTG, let alone does so on a regular basis.
I was actually talking about players of the Marjorie Taylor Green collectible card game
I played a little bit of standard magic. I had fun, but covid hit and I didn't want to go play at the local nerd HQ. I was never good, more like barely good enough to say I know how to play the game. I was gold in Arena if that helps.
So depending on your skill level there probably wouldn't even be much point lol
the nice thing about MTG is that with the right deck match-up and format, a novice can stand a reasonable chance against a pro, and both can have fun
I learned to play on MTG Arena, which does all the work for you, but then I got a girl's number when she brought up playing MTG on Cockatrice, and I have no idea where to start because MTG Arena does so much of the mechanical work of playing the game and Cockatrice does none and she's going to realize I'm a poser :bawllin-sad:
It's like the difference between playing basketball in real life and playing it over a video game - you learn the rules, you might win all the time, but you aren't learning how to actually play it because the computer does all the work. Not sure what to do.
call her and be honest. "I'm ashamed to say I got your number under false pretenses. I play magic on Cockatrice. I am a poser. I have no clue how to really play but if you'd like to show me I'm sure Id pick it up fast."
That's a perfect setup you have there. Vulnerability and honesty are sexy. You get an easy plan for a date. She gets to spend the whole time being nerdy and confident because she is good at something.
this shit (plus the wildly over the top release schedule and predatory pricing) is why I mostly play with proxies now
I played from Masques-Onslaught and then Innistrad-Khans. But there's been like a zillion releases since then? How do you even keep up?
mpcfill.com mostly lol. Playing with real cards is highly overrated if you aren't going to real events where the organizers actually care
I have a red white deck I call "Dog Dog Dog" it's all dogs and cards that make dogs immune to combat damage and cards that let me play multiple dogs per turn. I love it.
My username has nothing to do with MTG...
I've played over Discord/webcam a few times. It's alright.
I mostly play goofy singleton formats with my one nearby Magic friend.
which formats? i more or less exclusively play singleton these days between commander, cedh, canadian highlander and cube
Mostly the latter two. Trying to use what little free time I have to find a commander group and socialize but the few times I've tried commander in the distant past, I found to dislike the politics and slowness of the games.
My friend and I usually play 60-card Brawl with random restrictions and bans.
yes :sadness:
i've had trouble with spelltable but i'd be willing to give it a shot. maybe if you have Tabletop Simulator that would be more reliable?
I don't have the slightest idea how to play magic on TTS but i do have it and I would def be willing to learn!
I started playing just before they took out mana burn and stopped playing around Khans because all my friends who played moved away and all the games stores were cesspools.
Then during the pandemic my sister started dating a guy who played magic and she asked me to help her get better.
What format you looking to play?
if it was all online (cockatrice or one of the other platforms) i would basically play any format at all since there's not even the barrier of needing to print a deck when you want to try something
