You could go to jail for USING a VPN to access those sites. It also allows the government to "regulate and shut down" any social media site with more than 1 million users. Meaning that all big social media networks would have to do whatever the government wants, since the govenment has a constant threat of banning their network at their fingertips.

    Lol, the "security concerns" would be just as easily tackled with increased digital privacy laws, but they don't want to hurt google or facebook's profits.

        Yeah and they would actually have reason to care as now not only are you depriving American corporations of their profits but you're engaging in subversion of the American economy to benefit an enemy state. Like if you pirate and use the good Russian sites, you should be freaked the fuck out because they will inevitably go after or just happen to net pirates for using VPNs and throw them in the slammer for serious time as enemies of the state.
