at my state school, i did actually take 19th century philosophy from a Hegelian who was generally supportive of describing Marx accurately and assigned readings on his theory of alienation. definitely a lib, but at least for me, it was enough to immediately see what the prof didn't, which was why Marx would extend his initial post-Hegelian philosophy into political economy and that it was correct to do so.
What academy y'all learning Marxism at? Colleges I've worked at are all left-liberal to center-right profs
