Having grown up in Italy is a pain because I get to constantly see Americans not shutting up about its inhabitants, bringing up the same 5 stereotypes derived from New Jersey TV mobsters and Super Mario.

        Huh?

In Italy, the city of Vicenza has that stereotype for some reason (probably a historical famine or something), maybe it's related.

i have no idea, this is has been a free-floating (but rather rare) meme all my life. no idea where it came from. nobody uses it seriously.

my dad and i guessed maybe something during ww1? could be anything.

Yeah, most people of Italian heritage here in the US are descended from people who left Italy prior to its unification, and Italian-American culture largely coalesced here in the US. So culturally, we’re less like a sibling and more like your obnoxious fuck-up cousin who keeps getting promoted at work for… reasons

    Gen-Italia

sounds like a 80s/90s fashion/lifestyle brand for teens and preteens where someone didn’t get a second opinion before running with it
