It's so crazy that it's normalized to let rich people weaponize billions of dollars of human psychology to put hooks in your brain so regular workers will make them richer. Like tf this is a crime.

    Bill Hicks was right

it's crazy, but not especially so. it's no more crazy than the destruction of the ecosystem. in fact, i'd say it's the exact same phenomenon.

human attention is a scarce resource and capitalism just pisses it away for a slight increase in quarterly profits, while driving the entire economy into a death spiral of more and more ads (just to keep up with everyone else).

This is my number one political goal, make advertising illegal and replace all billboards with naturalistic art pieces like in the DPRK.

I was talking about ads with a friend of mine and he said on a recent family trip he'd put the TV on in a hotel room for his two kids to watch. When an ad break happened they got confused and angry and kept asking him what was going on. Truly a beautiful thing.

As someone in marketing, I unironically support this. The industry is inherently evil and needs to die. Even doing marketing for a non-profit that makes environmentally sound shoes for orphans and donates all it's free time to funding maoist guerillas is a mortal sin and you are making the world a very slightly bit worse with every act.

No, you see it's healthy for people to be psychologically manipulated into feeling insecure, unfulfilled, or generally bad about themselves constantly.

uBlock Origin glasses should be the only technology we spend money on. Stop the AI, stop the stop defense robots and dogs, stop the facial recognition, stop all of it. The only thing that should be funded is uBlock Origin glasses. Also we should destroy all ads in public spaces as well, but until then I need some sick shades that let me block ads.

For real, I hate how we all just have to collectively forfeit our vision to these ads everywhere we go. In cyberspace and in real life, ads just hijack our eyeballs. Nothing is opt-in, it’s all opt-out.

Did acid recently with friends. Whenever a YouTube ad played we literally did this. They're so jaring :agony-acid:

I already try to distract mine every time an ad happens near him. The absolute monsters who put ads in the middle of baby sensory/sleep videos deserve the wall

I envy 8 and 16 bit video game characters who don’t have the graphical fidelity to be plastered with ads.
