Doomguy/Doom Slayer's name is B.J. Blazkowicz. He's the grandson of Commander Keen (whose real name is also William J Blazkowicz), and the great-great grandson of the B.J. Blazkowicz who was the Wolfenstein character.

Yes, all the ID software characters have the same name and are all related. They're also canonically Jewish and the family is from Milwaukee, WI.

According to an alleged John Carmack quote with an unknown source Doomguy is canonically a virgin because all he thinks about is shooting demons. He's also likely on the spectrum given his penchant for collecting figurines, preference for avoiding speech, and custom-tooling his weapons to extremes and, based on the way he dresses, probably gay

Doomguy is much more menacing because he’s just a guy who’s doing all the killing. But “Doom Slayer” is just some shit a middle schooler made up and the studio went with it. “Oooh look at me I am the epic demon slayer!!” No bitch. Finish your crayons. Sign that Space Camaro lease. Pretty sure it was semi-ironic at first, but then they just embraced it after fans had a boner

I'm just not really fond of Doom Slayer, he was very edgy in the first reboot and while they do turn up a bit of cheese in Eternal, I just don't really care for him.

Not that Doomguy has much charm outside of supplemental material and fan content, but I still like him more.

Same. Maybe i'm just a crotchety old reactionary but back in my day we just needed some random frothingfash guy with a the-doohickey super shotgun and a sicko-power chainsaw to... well I don't think anyone was saved but he definitely killed a whole fuckload of people.

The whole " doomguy is actually a magic space demon with a magic sword" thing has been very "eh, i guess, whatever the kids are in to".

The only background info we needed about Doomguy was that he's the descendant of the dude from Wolfenstein3D.

Every DOOM mod is canon, so they say, and it's justified by Doomguy choosing to stay in Hell at the end of Final Doom or Doom 64 (don't remember which) to keep killing demons to take his revenge on them. Time is all fucky in Hell so for thousands of years he roamed around killing demons before they trapped him, and then we pick up the story on the Samuel Hayden (who is somehow also an angel) timeline where Hell is used as a source of electrical power.

The idea of this thread was more about what you call the main character of Doom. Calling the main character of the old games Doom Slayer is revisionism, and I will not allow it.

That's the unnamed protag of Metal: Hellsinger. She's actually in a doo wap band with Doomguy, Diablo, and Dante (the DMC Dante, not the sassy Italian.)

pepe-silvia Doom Slayer is the Walpurgisnacht of Doom Guy.

Time repeats, and we are caught in an Endless battle with Hell. Each time we try to stop the invasion. Each sequel some dumb corporation is harvesting Hell Energy. Each Can-It-Run-Doom integration we tear into the demonic hordes. Each reference causes a reinstall, to go to Hell one last time to close the source.

    The cycle repeats

...every time you, yes you the player, reset time back to the beginning...

    to the first level...

    to the first battle...

    where the shadows first lengthened...

Why do you keep playing, Slayer?
