Bold decision to make it 80 minutes but I dug it. Can't wait for babysekai to balloon into the next big genre.
Been recommended to me a ton, that first episode was pretty legit.
Entertainment industry Death Note wasn't what I was expecting to end up at but I'm invested now, and I do like how the show wasn't afraid to go to dark places even if I feel like it's tip-toeing around identifying the main issue. (Capitalism. It's always capitalism.)
I'm concerned the rest of the show won't be able to live up to the "glowstick dancing babies that are actually the reincarnations of the MC's ob/gyn and his dead child patient" levels of weird, but we'll see.
I feel like the premise of the first episode was written by someone who is genuinely insane, and that's why I might keep watching
Unfortunate, though tbh it would be pretty tough to keep escalating from here.
It's still really good later on! Just it's kind of about different things and is as bit less insane.
I read the manga and am very excited to see the first episode. Love the decision to make the first episode giant
Honestly, I thought it was fairly mediocre. But then again, I didn't enjoy the later, more drama-filled chapters of Kaguya-Sama: Love is War either.
Interesting. I generally disliked most of the actual romance/drama stuff in Kaguya (as an anime-only), but for whatever reason this landed for me.
Kayuga was at its best when it parodied romance and typical behaviors associated with it. It's a very good manga, but eventually you get fatigued and so does the author, which is felt in a decrease in quality imo.
Your Lie in April + Erased.
I feel the first episode could be rewritten as a movie itself lmao. Have it be about being a young woman in the entertainment industry, with the plot device of the reincarnating twins, who have their own B story obviously. It'd be pretty entertaining imo. As it stands, it's still good as a prologue, but obviously the actual show can't be judged based on it (too much). We'll have to see how well they do the mystry.
I don't really buy Aqua as an actor, if his only redeeming trait was being able to act like a creepy child (by being his normal self). I know the show is pushing for him to "present the feeling the director/writer are unable to even write down" but you also need acting chops. That'll probably be a part of the plot. Ruby will of course show the idol side of things. I wish they'd set the prologue to around 2010 or so, then the twins could be entering HS right now. It'd show the difference in the industry from then till now. As it stands, I don't know if they'll show how the industry has changed in the decade or so since Ai died. Or maybe I just missed that part?
It's definitely interesting. But you probably could have begun at the end too. Just give a brief synopsis of the backstory if needed, or better yet, just show it a lil bit through flashbacks. And if the show was successful, package the prologue as a proper movie.
Anyways, I'm rambling. Which means I like it, actually. I like it enough to talk about it properly lol.
8/10 (so far).
It was pretty great. I was reminded a great deal of Perfect Blue, which Oshi no Ko can never be, but it was still great for what it was. Glad they didn't take the reincarnation thing in a creepy direction. Maybe it's just me but I thought Ai was a bit too pure, even behind the scenes. It definitely begins to scratch the surface of the messed up idol industry, which has only gotten worse since the release of Perfect Blue.
