    I refuse to believe that the Spanish word cucaracha and the Dutch word kakkerlak are not related.

      from what I can find peeking through the etymology research linked on Dutch Wiktionary, they are, but not directly

      In Dutch it came from a combination of the already existing insult 'kackerlacker' and the Portuguese word 'cacalacca', coming from the Arawak (?) 'kakalaka'.
      I don't speak Spanish so I can't look at the Spanish etymology really, but the Dutch etymologiebank does mention that the Spanish most likely originates from either the Portuguese or the original Carribean language
