Oh Red, I have an interesting read for you: Operation Cóndor
We could also talk of the "Death Squads of the French School".
The "School of the Americas" is just the tip of the iceberg.
Did you even watch it? Here you go: https://vimeo.com/414505425 (french with spanish subtitles).
You could also read, if you know spanish, this papers (used in the History Degree of the University of Buenos Aires) centered on the Argentinian experience + some about Cóndor:
-
Eidelman, Ariel, (2010), “Transformaciones en los aparatos represivos del Estado Argentino durante la década 1955-1966”. Mimeo → The influence of the yankee and french doctrine on the argentinian army. Especifically, the counterinsurgency tactics used against the vietnamese and the argelian population (later, translated to the latin american dictatorships).
But, if money defines things... oh boy. It's not my fault that the hegemonic interest of the western powers don't finance an epic movie about the connection that existed between the repression on Indochina, Argelia and the Central - South American dictatorships. And how what the french learned was later teached to one of the bloodiest armies in SA. Fun fact: The argentian army send operators to central america, to teach the counterinsurgency and torture methods learned from the french (one of the receptors, where the CONTRAS).
The Marie-Monique Robin documentary go really deep on the french influence and presence in the LA dictatorships. Also, on the denialism from the french goverment.
PD: You can always watch “The Battle of Algiers”. Is a good representation of the French Doctrine. Later, the French School methods of counterinsurgency.
Yes. But the rent button didn’t pop up when I first saw it. It’s $5 to rent and $350 for a DVD

If only you knew how bad things were
The purpose of a thing is what ir does. This was always the desired outcome.
I know everyone here knows this but its so annoying to see libs say, "hmmm maybe we consider should close this because a lot of the trainees there became war criminals" as if that wasn't the point of it in the first place. This is what the US does this because the US is evil should be the lead
What if we don’t close it and instead hire more diverse instructors who will show the students how to inclusively torture
true that would be an even worse take for libs to have. At least they want to close it, but they're missing the point
A while back I picked up this book at the library. I turned to the back and coincidentally, Michael Parenti was quoted and he recommends the book.
