What’s the verdict on this?

I’ve seen one episode, and while I really like the design, the actual premise is giving me bad vibes.

THIS OPPRESSIVE SOCIETY WANTS YOU TO STOP CONSUMING, OTAKU!

YOU’RE NOT GONNA GIVE IN, ARE YOU? STAND UP FOR YOURSELF, BUY THE $200 FIGURINES kind of vibes.

Am I being unfair?

I only saw ep 1 and it definitely has potential. The consuuuum mind virus definitely is at play in the opening bit.

However it did seem to take a broader view of otaku culture than just plamos and figurines. Maybe it might be good? If it leans into story and trope being more important than things (like the end half of EP 1) that's how it can be good.

Jury's out tho, since I haven't watched any further than you. Yuri is my job and Lvl 999 Yamada are higher priority, along with gwitch

I'm okay with Otaku culture in general, I remember loving a little diatribe that was in Log Horizon where a character remembers being told that playing games is wasting your time and you should be doing something more productive instead, and the takeaway is simply, "It's my time, if I'm enjoying myself, then the time isn't wasted."

Fuck yes, dude! I can completely agree with that!

It's more the "my sense of self is defined by that which I consume" that worries me.
