A 30-year-old man who was screaming on a subway train died on Monday afternoon after another rider grabbed him and placed him in a chokehold, according to the police and video of the encounter.

The man, whose name has not been released, flailed with his arms and kicked his legs as he attempted to free himself, the video shows. The video was taken by Juan Alberto Vazquez, a freelance journalist, who posted it on his Facebook page, “Luces de Nueva York.”

In the video, the man who died pushes off another man who held his arms down.

Mr. Vazquez said that the rider who was screaming was frightening but had not assaulted anyone.

Mr. Vazquez’s video shows the man being held down for at least two minutes before he stopped moving. The men continued to hold him down for about 50 seconds before releasing him.

"At least two minutes", aka:

That’s when he said the straphanger came up behind Neely and took him to the ground in a chokehold — keeping him there for some 15 minutes, Vazquez said.

So, I do BJJ too. I'd argue that vascular constriction is a good way to subdue an attacker as I've had it explained to me that if someone is berserking the fuck out (if they're on meth or using their fash class bonus action :frothingfash: ) , hyperextending a joint might not stop them, but no blood to the brain will. You are right insofar as you need back control to prevent someone from escaping. If you need to restrain someone for 15 minutes (which is a horrible awful place to be), I agree back control with the RNC in isn't top tier, but I don't see it as strictly unreasonable.

However, squeezing it for 15 minutes is an absolutely psychopathic thing to do because, unlike any method I can think of outside of torture you have to sit there contemplating how you're killing this person for a quarter of an hour and just be okay with it the entire time. Like that's longer than what happened to George Floyd! If they were doing gross violence to you, and you manage to reverse the position, you might make it 2-3 minutes until your adrenaline dumps and you still get the choice about whether to follow through (and you probably choose not to kill them). And, of course, classifying the man who hadn't assaulted anybody as an attacker is dumb as fuck at best. Fascist fantasy fulfillment otherwise. I agree with you. My first instinct when reading the headline was "you have to hold someone for a flagrant amount of time to kill them by strangling them."
