Protestors arrested at KTH

Three people have been arrested and some 20 have been detained after a protest at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

According to police they are suspected of for instance crime against masking ban, disobedience against law enforcement and vandalism.

Protestors at the scene declare to SVT that they have protested against Israels warfare in Gaza in connection with the fact that the Christian Democrats' party leader Ebba Busch visited the school.

Also at Lund University there are ongoing protests against the war in Gaza.

Oh is there an actual ban on masking in Sweden? Anywhere I can learn more? Can be in Swedish.

This appears to be the relevant law, basically from what I understand, it's illegal to wear a mask at a public demonstration or gathering, if there is a "disruption of the public order", or the cops claim there to be an imminent risk of public order being disrupted.

It also says theres an exception for religious face coverings, and also that there is some cut out in the law allowing for a demonstration to have gained permission in advance to have masked participants.

Good grief, it's been in place from 2005? I did not know that Sweden has been this far into reactionary territory for this long, although I do know a bit about the moral panics about immigrants and such, those sort of leak across the Baltic.

Anyone aware if the face coverings in this demo were face masks (covid/health protection)? The Swedes seem to have a very weird fash aversion to them along with Finns, the playbook of herd immunity by letting the weak die pretty much came from Sweden. Stronghold of eugenism showing its true colours.

I don't think so. From the linked article:

-They are scared of being suspended from the university or other consequences for protesting against the war, says one of the protestors, about why some hide their face behind for example keffiyehs.

You can see that in the video as well.

I would guess it refers to things like balaclavas, but of course the police could extend that to mean medical masks if it suits them at the moment

The laws I can find seem to only care about public context and not the actual mask in questions, aside from allowing for religious facial coverings, if the cops decided that a medical mask was being worn to conceal your identity at a "public demonstration" that is a "disruption of the public order" or at imminent risk of becoming that, they could probably charge you with the crime.
