The people who still do that at German universities tend to be absolute ultra-chuds.
Also, German academic fencing is super cringe. Not like in the movies but extremely static with opponents taking turns lobbing the rapier at each other's heads.

The Nazis banned academic fencing fwiw. They thought it promoted independence from the state or something like that.
But also of course a lot of em were duelists, a lot of Germans were duelists lol. It's like saying: a lot of nazis breathed air back in the day. Well, they did until the soviets dealt with the appropriately.
