VOTOMS goes so hard. Most of the sequel OVAs are pretty dope, too.

Especially Armor Hunter Mellowlink, which is the "what if a guy with a big ass gun fought mechs" spinoff.

The plots a little thin, but the action set pieces are pretty sweet. Hope you enjoy it.

        mild setting spoilers

The train and mansion episodes are so fucking cool.

votoms is basically gundam fanfic by someone who only liked the zaku and thought every other mobile suit sucked, so yeah that's close enough

Ryosuke Takashashi is quite underrated. Dougram is a banger, VOTOMS is great, Layzner is very good. The only show I thought was meh was Flag (2006) which was one of his last projects anyway... until he returned to make a reboot of the 1980 kids' show Muteking (which is underrated. It's not really a masterpiece, but is FUN)

i need to watch dougram, i feel like i'd like it more than i liked votoms.

i mean, i liked votoms, but i was expecting more politics and grounded stuff, and the back half was very much not that. and even the front half was a fair bit less serious than i expected. my favorite episodes were probably the ones on that ship that felt straight out of the prisoner, where chirico keeps getting woken up by the videos of his atrocities with that marching music. that ruled

Oh yeah, that's the highlight of the show. I also liked the final arc, which is perhaps somewhat controversial.

Dougram on the other hand is a story of a revolutionary movement conducting a guerrilla war. It's heavy on politics and much of it is pretty good.

yeah, i didn't hate the final arc, it just very much wasn't what i was expecting

i watched that hour long video essay that was posted on here a while back on dougram and immediately put it on my watchlist. the only problem is that 75 episodes is a lot and i have other commitments and i'm still trying to watch a bunch of gundam, so my mecha backlog is pretty full already. i wanna watch it though, it seems great!
