There's a certain kind of humor that really bothers me. It's hard to explain, but imagine a nerdy person who describes themselves as having a dry sense of humor, saying something incredibly obvious and also without any sense of humorous timing, usually doing so in a completely flat and expressionless way, and then smirking like it was the wittiest, funniest thing ever. I wish I had an example because I know that this description sucks, but I've heard so many of these anti-funny joke attempts that they're like nails on a chalkboard to me.

The thing with these jokes is that they either land and are the most hilarious thing in history, or they are the worst shit you've ever heard. No in between.

and there's a good 1 : 10 ratio between the two, but the bangers go straight into the 'open-mic standup' list

Yeah, I have a variation on this type of dry joke where I say someone is "going for the hattrick", where they are about to do three different things or bring up three different topics, and it seems to land very well. But I've tried to come up with lots of other types of jokes in the same format and they've all been misses.

      100% rotten

Some of the worst are pop culture references that have been recycled for years already. I know different groups of people have different exposure and that I'm very online, but a good referential joke is almost subterranean. The listener should feel clever for getting it, and it's best if it takes a beat to figure out.
