The chauvinism of all these articles about how China is being mean to the US DIRECTLY OFF CHINA'S COAST is off the charts. And then media outlets will say that China is being aggressive and militaristic.

Someone said it before, but yeah: just playing an endless game of "I'm not touching you" and then crying foul when the person coughs on your finger

I think that's accurate given the actual size of these ships and their sluggishness and inertia. Its actually less than one ship length of the Burke destroyer here.

Still, pretty hyperbolic headline that can be interpreted as China opening fire on the ships and nearly missing, or nearly ramming their ships. In reality, they strafed by in a parallel direction.

If we're being honest with ourselves, I can see some sea captain getting cocky and going for a close pass from any country or culture.

China is coming up as the big super power, they can have a few military goofs and gaffs as a treat.

the USN is accustomed to collisions and near-collisions, China's ship was just trying to make them feel at home

They don’t need to, Americans already treat everywhere they step foot into as their personal gamer basement

imagining the headlines if China and Russia were doing naval war games 20 miles off the coast of Miami

imagine if china acted about puerto rico the way amerikkka acts about taiwan:

    "Amerikkka is west puerto rico!"

"the puerto rican government in exile will reclaim amerikkka!"

"puerto rico is NOT american territory!"

"chinese aircraft carriers floating in the carribean sea are merely trying to protect puerto rico!"

    that would be awesome

Xi, please deploy the People's Liberation Navy to the Caribbean. Just sail around 3-4 ships quietly on a little tour and enjoy watching the Anglos lose their minds.

Funny how the headline seems to have different context if it was "Chinese warship nearly hits U.S. destroyer in South China Sea during joint Canada-U.S. mission".

If anything, using ¨Taiwan Strait" in the headline is even more damning considering both US and Canada recognize Taiwan as a part of China. Usually countries frown on foreign militaries conducting operations in their territory.

Man China should be more careful when they're not in their own territory.
