I don't think it's controversial and anyone who thinks it is needs to remember that he was an anti-civ, anti-human, eco-fascist asshole. It's like how the Chapos used to call us Grey Wolves; It's funny because it's not funny, and it's important not to give in to irony poisoning.

I barely remember the lore. We really need a lore wiki. The Chapos had a riff for a couple of years where they would talk about the necessity of capturing the traitor Gulen and rendition him back to Turkey, and somehow the Chapo fan base got to being called Grey Wolves. I think it was all in reference to a lot of high level collusion, bribery, maybe some light treason going on in the US government and military at the time where people were openly acting as agents of the Turkish state for money. There were a lot of jokes about kidnapping Gulan from wherever he was living in Pennsylvania.

Either way, it's all ironic pitch-black humor. Most of us know the real Grey Wolves are a fascist organization.
