Without giving cancellation numbers and change in revenue, this data means nothing
While I’m not convinced this will ultimately lead to more subscribers in the long-term, this doesn’t seem that surprising to me as an initial reaction. There are loads of people who have been piggybacking on someone else’s account out of convenience for years, and are now getting a subscription of their own because that’s how they get to keep watching. They’ll soon be making the same calculation that everyone else makes about whether or not it’s actually worth the money.
A lot of these people have also probably been doing it since they were kids/college students-- they were either using their parent's or a roommate's account, and couldn't really afford their own. They're now in their 20s and 30s, and can (maybe) actually afford the bill. They never switched before this because why would you, but now that they can both afford their treats and are forced to get their own accounts, they're doing so.
These people have signed up for the free trial, only the ones who forget to cancel will really subscribe
