My ban isn't even listed in the modlog, what the fuck? They unbanned the transphobe and restored their screed too

Like why the fuck would they reinstate this comment?? : https://lemmy.ml/comment/541908 edit: it's finally fucking down again

Good luck to the devs once lemmy is taken over by a bunch of transphobic liberals "just asking questions" and endless screeds about tankies or some shit.

Edit: lol losers https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/4m7ITj8r8Z.jpg, still don't know why my whole account was banned

Per the admins we're not going to federate right away. Gotta sus out how things will go on the other big lemmy instances filling up with shitlibs.

For anyone not familiar with the lore, lemmygrad.com was a patsoc instance that tried to typosquat lemmygrad.ml.

Wow, the patsoc domain redirects to exploding heads, the nazi instance. I didn't know that.

Yikes... They must have either let the domain lapse, or someone at the Nazi instance got into the admin team there.

DDoS? Or reporting? Maybe we should camp the domain?

Expires next year we need a site timer to count down so we can snatch it. There's only like 4 Nazis on that instance, they'll forget.

We might also be able to report registrar abuse because the url is being used to redirect to a totally different site. Not sure if it'd hold up, but if the Nazis are asleep at the wheel the automated systems might just steamroll them.

On one hand, it was the goal since the inception of this site. The fact that Hexbear became incompatible was a freak coincidence caused by the circumstances of the site's launch. That said, it's been two and a half years like this and it isn't unreasonable to discuss whether this is still the correct path or not.

The work which has been done returning Hexbear to upstream Lemmy was done primarily out of a need to significantly reduce the maintenance burden of the site. By doing this, we are finally able to benefit from improvements and bugfixes which land in Lemmy, and basically get the option of federation for free.

Personally, I'm kind of excited about the potential, but I am not in charge here and don't care particularly much if it goes one way or another.

Yeah we could always merge the codebase and then not federate or federate with some smaller instances that are good

Pretty much yeah. Federation was a selling point for Lemmy. I think it'll be fun to dunk on some libs, but it'll also have to be done carefully so as not to exhaust people that use this website as a (semi) safe space.

There's a handy "local" button right at the top of the page that will pretty much bring it back to normal. Moderation will remain heavy handed on any dorks who wander in. I think the "threat" to this site is minimal

I think there are some reasonabke concerns. Mods will have a larger workload. Hopefully we've prepared for this! And our regulars will be used to a space that has carved out some good positions, particularly on trans inclusion and rejecting all forma of transphobia, but we will start interacting with more people who don't have that background and will at least need some education. The impetus for that education will be them failing to stand by our norms, which will be unpleasant for a lot of people here.
