My ban isn't even listed in the modlog, what the fuck? They unbanned the transphobe and restored their screed too

Like why the fuck would they reinstate this comment?? : https://lemmy.ml/comment/541908 edit: it's finally fucking down again

Good luck to the devs once lemmy is taken over by a bunch of transphobic liberals "just asking questions" and endless screeds about tankies or some shit.

Edit: lol losers https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/4m7ITj8r8Z.jpg, still don't know why my whole account was banned

So hate speech openly parroting GOP talking points and stating the exact opposite of the current clinical consensus is allowed, but calling it out in "uncivil" ways isn't? If that's more than an isolated incident, lemmy.ml can go fuck itself, goddamn liberal terflicker swines.

It's fucking gross. One of the admins rightfully banned this fuckhead, and was then overridden by another.

I'd really like to know why I was banned but this fuck gets unbanned. W/e hexbear remains the better site because shit like this is ridiculed and banned.

Putting tone policing over principle and protection of the marginalized is a deeply bourgeoisified mindset that will always further the ends of the ruling class. It is not only inherently unjust to anybody who feels legitimate outrage at systemic injustice instead of commenting from a cozy position of privilege, as we see in this case where a cisshit is using his position of absolute hegemonial dominance to violate and poison a leftist space while talking down to children persecuted by the state who have to debate their very right to not have their bodies maimed by the wrong puberty. Pretending that the monstrous genocidal policies of this filthy liberal gulag candidate are worthy of rational consideration instead of ostracism and mockery is laughably offensive. Marking outrage at this as unutterable is an inherently counter-revolutionary act.

The entire regime of tone policing is in itself also inherently credentialist and anti-proletarian. This smugness is the mark of the intellectual who still needs to be sent to the country for proletarian labor. Lemmy.ml needs to treat this mod accordingly. Disciplinary action and re-education is mandatory after such a major breach of revolutionary leftist principle. If lemmy as a whole is incapable of that, it is not prepared for the influx of reactionary reddit liberals coming their way, and it is not prepared for our posting power.

Demanding that lgbt people, racial groups and the lower classes engage with their oppressors in a suitable "tone" without ever getting heated is unrealistic. The outcome of tone policing is that the oppressed get banned from spaces when they don't behave with the right tone when discussing their oppression while those doing the oppressing come to dominate it more and more.

Yikes... They must have either let the domain lapse, or someone at the Nazi instance got into the admin team there.

DDoS? Or reporting? Maybe we should camp the domain?

Expires next year we need a site timer to count down so we can snatch it. There's only like 4 Nazis on that instance, they'll forget.

We might also be able to report registrar abuse because the url is being used to redirect to a totally different site. Not sure if it'd hold up, but if the Nazis are asleep at the wheel the automated systems might just steamroll them.

On one hand, it was the goal since the inception of this site. The fact that Hexbear became incompatible was a freak coincidence caused by the circumstances of the site's launch. That said, it's been two and a half years like this and it isn't unreasonable to discuss whether this is still the correct path or not.

The work which has been done returning Hexbear to upstream Lemmy was done primarily out of a need to significantly reduce the maintenance burden of the site. By doing this, we are finally able to benefit from improvements and bugfixes which land in Lemmy, and basically get the option of federation for free.

Personally, I'm kind of excited about the potential, but I am not in charge here and don't care particularly much if it goes one way or another.

Yeah we could always merge the codebase and then not federate or federate with some smaller instances that are good

Pretty much yeah. Federation was a selling point for Lemmy. I think it'll be fun to dunk on some libs, but it'll also have to be done carefully so as not to exhaust people that use this website as a (semi) safe space.

There's a handy "local" button right at the top of the page that will pretty much bring it back to normal. Moderation will remain heavy handed on any dorks who wander in. I think the "threat" to this site is minimal

I think there are some reasonabke concerns. Mods will have a larger workload. Hopefully we've prepared for this! And our regulars will be used to a space that has carved out some good positions, particularly on trans inclusion and rejecting all forma of transphobia, but we will start interacting with more people who don't have that background and will at least need some education. The impetus for that education will be them failing to stand by our norms, which will be unpleasant for a lot of people here.

It makes me happy that zero tolerance for transphobes is something I think everyone on this site agrees on. Thinking about this also makes me wonder if we should be doing more to lifeboat the pro-trans subreddits right now. Whenever I see a “Reddit alternatives” thread on subreddits like /r/196, I never see any mention of Hexbear anywhere. Is this something we want to avoid advertising or would it actually be good to make people more aware of this place?

that only came after some extended struggle sessions that nearly killed the site. a lot of people put significant time and energy into convincing the site that any level of transphobia had no place here. I think the admins were afraid at first that banning all the transphobes would kill site growth but it just gave wreckers room to instigate under the cover of plausible deniability. having to constantly fight about it drove people away faster than just banning the bigots in the first place.

This just shows that trans people have no future if they choose to migrate to lemmy instead of Hexbear. Can you imagine that instance implementing pronoun flairs or even carving out a safe space for trans people if you get banned for telling transphobes to eat shit and fuck off?

The user should be banned and if the mod restored that comment deliberately they should at least be unmodded, possibly banned as well.

And their site needs to drop the reactionary-friendly "politeness" rules, they are never enforced equitably and straight-up inherently favor anti-trans bullying.

No, Hexbear.net will get a newish ui in like a week as we defork (and get our old posts back!), but we won't be federating right away and it sounds like if we do it will only be with lemmygrad

I could see having a more locked down version of Lemmy as Hexbear and then a more open, but still communist one, with Lemmygrad (where users can make their own comms, embed images in posts, etc.) would be slightly OK. I do not see any benefit federating with any of the other groups if they're gunna' be like this.

We will get exactly one "own" and then they will all defederate and spread lies that everyone will believe and any future instances will have defederate lists that they use before even interacting with any leftists so they can share stolen porn gifs and video game reviews that did not rate their favourite game high enough.
