"She went to step up to compete for the grade four shot-put final, and right before she went to throw, a grandfather of a student said, 'Hey, this is supposed to be a girls' event, and why are you letting boys compete.' My daughter is cisgender, born female, uses she/her pronouns. She has a pixie haircut," said mom Heidi Star.
Star says the man then carried on to demand certification to prove that her daughter was born female.
"He stopped the entire event. He also pointed at another girl who also had short hair. He then piped in and said, 'Well, if she is not a boy, then she is obviously trans.'"
Star said the man's wife then started calling her "a genital mutilator, a groomer, and a pedophile."
This is what happens when you allow Americanism to invade your country.
Girls tend to have the advantage in sports before they become teenagers, as they growth spurt sooner and tend to be taller and stronger than their peers for a few years.
But also, nobody at age 9 is doing anything more than the barest fundamentals. You're talking about kids who are just learning how to dribble a basketball or hit a thrown pitch. Literally any amount of practice will be the difference between good and bad child athletes at this age.
Playing footie at like 9 years old was absolutely miserable because every time there was a "tournament" (god why? Who thought it was a good idea to keep 9 year olds running around in the sun four like four hourss on a saturday with parents and coaches yelling at them?) There would invariably be try-hard teams from fancy zip codes that would just kick your team's ass around the field, sometimes three or four times in one day if you went up against a bunch of those teams. And god forbid you start crying because adults are putting a ton of pressure on you to win a game when you're hopelessly outmatched and just being a punching bag for kids with the most horrible :grillman: parents. You're not allowed to quit, i don't care if you hate it, it's good for you or something. Like yeah my parents eventually stopped forcing me to do it, but i absolutely fucking despise organized sport to this day.
Oh god and the fucking ugly plastic participation trophies everyone got. I don't remember how I felt about them at the time, but in retrospect adults pressuring children to win a meaningless game, then handing them a piece of plastic regardless, is so grim. Like what are you supposed to take from that?
Full grown adults can do friendly games of flag football and half-court basketball without a problem in the world, but 9 year olds have to play like they're actually in the NFL because their parents have delusions of grandeur. You shouldn't even have official teams at this age. Just do pick-up games in between some short lessons about the rules and history of the sport. Then everyone retreats to a movie theater during the heat of the day to watch Brian's Song or The Longest Yard or something.
Can't have any kind of children's activity without a fountain of Merch.
