"She went to step up to compete for the grade four shot-put final, and right before she went to throw, a grandfather of a student said, 'Hey, this is supposed to be a girls' event, and why are you letting boys compete.' My daughter is cisgender, born female, uses she/her pronouns. She has a pixie haircut," said mom Heidi Star.

Star says the man then carried on to demand certification to prove that her daughter was born female.

"He stopped the entire event. He also pointed at another girl who also had short hair. He then piped in and said, 'Well, if she is not a boy, then she is obviously trans.'"

Star said the man's wife then started calling her "a genital mutilator, a groomer, and a pedophile."

This is what happens when you allow Americanism to invade your country.

I remember a butch lesbian furiously telling me not to grow my hair long because it makes me "look like a removed" when I was younger. How she failed to see how the same thing could be applied to her always baffled me.

Those people are certainly perplexing, but I think it's worth remembering that the majority of TERFs are straight women (and that's not counting the conservative men who use "protecting our women and girls" as a pretext for transphobia, but don't really believe themselves to be feminists)

I learned a while back that a lot of actual second wave radical feminists openly and loudly embraced trans women, and even back then, with actual second wave radfems, people were denouncing terfs as fucking assholes.

I hear this kind of thing couched in the dramatics of Gay Panic Defense from time to time. "What happens if my 250 lb, 40 year old, grizzled ass was to be sexually assaulted by a roving gang of transgenders?! I would have to act in my own self-defense, surely. Now let me give you the ugly details of my personal bigotry-inspired power fantasy."

I've been wondering if the growth in transphobia is because bigotry against cis queers is being less and less tolerated, and the bigots are simply looking for a new target because their fucked up psychologies require them to be bigots against someone.

Chuds tend to say something like “this trans stuff is on your entire community”.

The child moral panic bullshit is just the wedge to open the door. The target is all LGBT. The call to arms is just an excuse.

After refereeing children's sports and seeing the lack of coordination first-hand, there really shouldn't be gender in sports until like puberty.

Even at pre-teen and above, maybe they should separate kids by if they got a growth spurt yet or not. Team sports where the whole team just passes to the biggest/fastest kid doesn't help anyone develop skills.

Hitting puberty early is too huge of an advantage if you ever want to be a pro athlete.

as childrens sports are played for fun I don't think we need to worry too much about the integrity of the competition

I don't really care about integrity because kid's sports should be focussed on development and shouldn't be properly competitive until late teens IMO. It's more that if there's one clearly stronger/faster kid, then no one else really gets better because all the other kids learn to just pass to them.

I was that kid people passed to so I still play the sports I played as a kid. Hearing stories of other people having bad times in gym class, or being forced to play by their parents and having a bad time saddens me because it's a missed opportunity.

The problem is that youth sports can become scholarships or recruitment to prestigious colleges, or professional sports.

I am all for destroying these things and getting all money out of sports.

ah fair enough I think athletic scholarships are mainly an American thing and the kids that get into professional sports tend to be the kids that play in clubs as children. No one is getting into professional sports based on just their high school PE lessons

Girls tend to have the advantage in sports before they become teenagers, as they growth spurt sooner and tend to be taller and stronger than their peers for a few years.

But also, nobody at age 9 is doing anything more than the barest fundamentals. You're talking about kids who are just learning how to dribble a basketball or hit a thrown pitch. Literally any amount of practice will be the difference between good and bad child athletes at this age.

Playing footie at like 9 years old was absolutely miserable because every time there was a "tournament" (god why? Who thought it was a good idea to keep 9 year olds running around in the sun four like four hourss on a saturday with parents and coaches yelling at them?) There would invariably be try-hard teams from fancy zip codes that would just kick your team's ass around the field, sometimes three or four times in one day if you went up against a bunch of those teams. And god forbid you start crying because adults are putting a ton of pressure on you to win a game when you're hopelessly outmatched and just being a punching bag for kids with the most horrible :grillman: parents. You're not allowed to quit, i don't care if you hate it, it's good for you or something. Like yeah my parents eventually stopped forcing me to do it, but i absolutely fucking despise organized sport to this day.

Oh god and the fucking ugly plastic participation trophies everyone got. I don't remember how I felt about them at the time, but in retrospect adults pressuring children to win a meaningless game, then handing them a piece of plastic regardless, is so grim. Like what are you supposed to take from that?

Full grown adults can do friendly games of flag football and half-court basketball without a problem in the world, but 9 year olds have to play like they're actually in the NFL because their parents have delusions of grandeur. You shouldn't even have official teams at this age. Just do pick-up games in between some short lessons about the rules and history of the sport. Then everyone retreats to a movie theater during the heat of the day to watch Brian's Song or The Longest Yard or something.

Oh god and the fucking ugly plastic participation trophies everyone got.

Can't have any kind of children's activity without a fountain of Merch.

No, sexual dimorphism starts when they are fetuses, it's just much more limited. Having different genitals is dimorphism.

It is definitely before most dimorphism that is relevant to sports starts.

The only "gender ideology" is cisgender ideology. The only grooming is reactionary parents forcing their child to present as the gender they were assigned at birth.
