Or is it just going to be like the site name where mods just do it without asking anyone?
(Maybe it's clear by the question but I also don't really understand how all this works)

Personally I rather this site have it's own identity not centered on the fact there was once a subreddit that would bully other redditors.
IMO it feels sorta pathetic I guess? We built a community here that is more or less distinct from the sub, and still manages to strike fear into lemmy libs on beehive somehow, despite being an extremely positive place.
Everything is transient, nothing stays the same.
Additionally, the context of that podcast that felix was on, the host was roasting him essentially because to people like him, it seemed like a goofy white boy fronting on the very serious reputation of the real El Chapo. He tried to explain that anyone else trying to do this would probably get jumped at the very least. To this guy the name "Chapo Trap House" felt like a bunch of well off white dudes doing a bit that they didn't understand. I tend to agree. Thinking about it too hard feels like I'm back in college and 5 white boys are standing in a circle rapping along to "real slim shady".
Yeah I guess my point is I'd be fine if I was outnumbered in opinion on the name change, I just don't like that we were never asked what we thought the mods just did it.
And tbf I think discourse about the podcasts name is dumb af. It's clearly supposed to be ironic. Like holy shit who cares go do some praxis.
Nah the name change was bad and and jumping over to the low tier evanescent meme that was the hexagonal bear as a permanent name has shades of "so random" written all over it.
