Its so awful and i only completed The Chase mission because the person I was chasing got stuck on the wall and i auto won.

I don't know how they got Driver 1 so very right and then every game after except for san Fransisco is garbage.

driver 1 and 2 were also dogshit but people remember them as good because GTA wasn't 3D yet so it was sort of like a preview of what GTA would be like. Then, once GTA was 3D, the driver series lagged behind and you had this cheap imitation of GTA in driver 3. the only good feature was being able to do instant replays with cinematography and stuff.

I will stand by driver 1 actually being very enjoyable outside the wierd soundtrack. Everything but the last mission I could do with relative ease and never found myself getting too frustrated with that game. Driver 2 is ass though and just ups the difficulty in the most stupid of ways.

I'm replaying the entire series and so far Driver 1 is the only one I actually enjoyed and for a ps1 game controls really nicely.

I spent almost all of my time in Driver 1 doing instant replay videos of running from cops acab, the actual missions were such a pain in the ass, super hard and sometime you'd have to repeat two or three missions if you failed.

Supposedly Driver 3 was good for making machinima videos like that. I've also heard Parallel Lines was pretty good, but at that point nobody was going to play Driver over GTA and it didn't have the bonkers premise of San Francisco.

i feel like driver legitimately had a difficulty wall to prevent children from playing, because the first fucking mission in either 1 or 2 was the hardest driving test of all time.

I played quite a lot of this game as a kid because I was a sicko although yes, it was very janky. Feels like there's a decent game hidden beneath all the bugs somewhere though, the dynamic vehicle destruction (including bullet holes appearing in cars where you shot them) felt pretty revolutionary at the time and was a few years ahead of other games to have it like GTA IV.

I remember I used to use the video capture mode to make short films of the main character shooting up police cars in slow motion like something out of a Daily Mail journalist's worst nightmare and that was pretty fun.

It was very ambitious and has some decent driving physics. I used to just apply the cheats and drive around free mode when i was a kid and enjoyed it.

The missions themselves aren't that bad until they make you go on foot or use a motorbike which are insufferable.

Yeah this was definitely 90% of my play time, haha. I did think the locations were kinda cool as well, not every day you see Nice and Istanbul in a video game, especially at the time.

I'm pretty sure I completely hit a brick wall with one of the main missions where you have to fight like 20 enemies in a mansion and then have a bike chase or something.

They had to rush the game and it was never finished. The car crashing physics are really good for a ps2 game. Too bad the on foot gamrplay is awful. Iirc, it was supposed to change to a first person view but they never finished that.

As a Shrek 1 xbox (2001) fan I of course played this too. It was obviously rushed and unfinished which is a shame because the car handling and destruction were superb. Some of the songs were good even though they too were rushed and just looped nonstop.
