Yeah, that's half of the point of patriarchy, convince men to take life-threatening risks for somebody else's sake. The other is to get women to do a ton of unpaid labor that just isn't profitable, but needs to be done because it is absolutely essential to a society's survival, like raising kids and taking care of their elders.

Analagous to how during the American revolution George Washington paid German mercenaries in the employ of Britain in land rights to defect but he paid them in deeds to land held by the Indians
And they don't even have to make him take the fall, he volunteered.
These people always do, you just need to convince them that it's the honorable, manly thing to do and toxic masculinity takes care of everything else.
