Yeah, the whole "super sane" thing just feels waaaayyyy too meta for me. The same with Deadpool and his breaking the fourth wall, not everything needs an in universe explanation
Well, it is Grant Morrison, so "too meta" is pretty much par for the course. I'm never really sure whether I really LIKE him or not, but his stuff is always crazy and inventive, so I at least appreciate it.
Yeah, but I also think he's been kind of overthought in recent decades. Like I don't really like that writers today make him the symbol of insanity and chaos and stuff, and attach this grand Manichean conflict to him and Batman. I rewatched Mask of the Phantasm recently, and Joker was extremely scary and intimidating, but he was also just a jumped-up mafia thug. Both him and Bruce Wayne were written in a more down to earth way than any Batman work portrays them now.
Like with Batman, they don't do the thing where Bruce Wayne is the alter-ego and Batman is the real identity, and Bruce is a much more relatable character as a result.
in batman tas he was just an asshole dressed like a clown voiced by mark hamill and i liked that better than this
