Public schools in South Africa are actually the cheaper "government run" ones, some are even free. Their are plenty of private schools here with more expensive school fees than Pretoria Boys High.
Pretoria Boys High charges such high fees because it's a public school trying to compete with the super expensive private schools around the country. They don't want to lose their public school status, so they can't go private. I think they have partnerships with Eton and Oxford in England as well lmao.

Which is also crazy because a select few public government schools, usually ex model c schools (a term for a school that was whites only during apartheid) can charge super high fees to compete with the private non government ones with facilities and so forth. As someone that knew I was bisexual since I was 9, then got repressed till I was 17 and realised again, they are probably the worst schools to attend if you're gay. So much homophobia and macho man nonsense. I'll save the rest because it's not safe for life.

i figured out that i was bisexual at ~13 ish but as i was in a british state school and moderately known for beating people i didn't like, although gay was used as an insult, when confronted with my actual gayness, most were either ok with it or didn't dare fuck with me about it
