I decided to try out wolfenstein because I love boomer shooters, and I love shooting fascists. I played for a little bit on Dosbox and was absolutely annoyed with the controls so I tried wolfendoom and was annoyed that the enemy stats were not accurate to the original. Finally found the ecwolf source port and I can say that I am very happy with my experience playing it.

I thought the complete lack of a y-axis would be pretty distracting, but it actually makes the game very unique to play because you have to use tactics you would not normally use in other shooters.

Make sure that when you are playing to use the automap feature, because navigating some of the levels without the automap is literal hell on earth (pun intended).

Finally, heres just a little content warning: The game obviously contains a lot of nazi imagery such as swastikas, nazi salutes, and images of hitler. The game is a little gorey. The developers were quite ignorant of German culture, so some may find certain aspects of the game offensive, such as how the enemies speak in somewhat broken German.

Heres the download for it: http://maniacsvault.net/ecwolf/download.php

Memory just popped into my head of the 90's and shopping at a grocery store that had a video and game rental place and it was playing Wolfenstein 3D on the Jaguar on a big screen and I was blown away. I remember thinking the entire game was a massive maze that would take years to figure out lol

Ya, the levels in wolfenstein were SUPER labyrinthian. Even with the immense help of an automap, you will got lost in some of the levels. I remember I got lost in this one maze level for 45 minutes before I gave up and looked up a walkthrough, turns out the key to complete the level was behind a secret wall, I was so pissed.
