Well, Prigozhin gets to live in Belarus instead of being on the wrong end of an Iskander, Wagner forces (in Ukraine at least) will probably get integrated into the Russian military, and SHOOOOIIGUUU and GEERRASSIMOOVV get to keep their jobs. Putin looks like a weak leader but at least things are intact. Also, the front in Ukraine hasn't broken down or anything.
I imagine a ton of things have happened behind the scenes that we either will never know about or will only slowly come to know about in the future.
About as happy an ending to the Wagner saga as we could hope for given the nature and historical horror stories of mercs. Or is it the end...? (Yes. Hopefully.)
And I have it on good authority that Stalin is currently looking down on this situation from heaven and incessantly swearing at these motherfuckers for what they've done to his country.
Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.
Here is the archive of important pieces of analysis from throughout the war that we've collected.
This week's first and only update is here, because I am on my regularly scheduled week-long break that I forgot about until now given all that's going on. Next update will be next Wednesday.
Links and Stuff
Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict
Add to the above list if you can, thank you.
Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins
Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. I recommend their map more than the channel at this point, as an increasing subscriber count has greatly diminished their quality.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have decent analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources. Beware of chuddery.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the warzone.
Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.
Telegram Channels
Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.
Pro-Russian
https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist (but still quite reactionary in terms of gender and sexuality and race, so beware). If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ Another big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia's army.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.
Pro-Ukraine
Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.
Last week's discussion post.
We've seen Bhadrakumar's take on events - not a psyop, but also not evidence that the Russian state is made out of rotten wood and all Ukraine needs to do is give one final kick. Big Serge's is similar; in a paragraph:
I've written up a "summary" here:
He remarks about how, rather than a story being created out of the facts, instead facts are bolted on to pre-conceived stories. Everybody can pick out different details, take maybe 4 or 5 of these, and weave them into a broad and maybe even convincing narrative while not even acknowledging that alternative models could be fit to the same reality. Those who believed that the Russian state was weak saw events as proof of Russia's weakness; those who believed that the Russian state was strong saw events as proof of Russia's expert skill in creating believable psyops; and both sides accused each other of cope for it. Prigozhin was not an independent actor, he was a cog in their machine: either in Fukuyama's end-of-history machine where the neoliberal flag would be raised over Moscow as it is destined to do because neoliberalism is the endstage; or in Russia's hypercompetent psyop machine where he is a puppet on strings pulled by Putin himself. Big Serge believes that he was, indeed, an independent actor.
The mutiny was genuine but not an existential threat to the Russian state. It did indeed cause problems and may continue to do so, but these problems were and can be overcome.
While some of the confusion around events was obviously just going to happen anyway, a substantial amount was generated by pro-Ukrainian figures who were spreading rumors about how politicians were defecting to Prigozhin's side and Russian forces were, rather than blocking Wagner's convoy, joining them on their drive to Moscow. None of this happened. There are no known cases of single Russian soldier defecting, nor of any politicians or officials.
He firmly discounts the theory by the West that Prigozhin was about to crown himself Tsar Eugene the First given that, well, he was not, he never said he was going to do so, the Wagner convoy was stopped (albeit by negotiations rather than missiles), and the contagion of the coup did not spread. The next level down is "Well, okay, it didn't work THIS time, but oh boy, just wait for another armed group to march on Moscow that's more serious, or for Ukraine to break through the Belgorod front!" but unless they have Russian-supplied equipment (most importantly air defense), or all the oligarchs band together to make a palace coup, it's a little difficult to imagine anything similar happening.
He also discounts the Psyop theory, though cannot entirely (it's a theory that's kinda unfalsifiable), and looks at the following five reasons given by the Psyop group as to why it might have been done:
Near the end, Big Serge talks about Wagner and Prigozhin and what his motivations were, and concludes that ultimately Prigozhin was a man who was taking a big gamble despite not having a winning hand (I don't know how poker works so just insert an analogy here) and Putin called his bluff. In his wildest dreams, he might have imagined a country firmly on his side and not Putin's, with the same kind of late-Soviet bureaucracy that made decisive decisions near-impossible to enact against him, and most importantly some sections of the military willing to give his soldiers food and equipment and ammo. He may have committed the cardinal sin of believing his own propaganda about the Russian MoD. In reality, he got none of that and is now walking with his tail tucked between his legs to Belarus.
And finally at the end, he discusses the often-made analogy of this coup to 1917, and says that they aren't just not the same thing, and they aren't just not even approximations of the same thing, but they were actually opposite things.

That's President Potatohead to you.
Billionaire on billionaire beef like Elon vs Zuck. Elon is like Putin challenging Elon to a fight, Luka is Elon’s mom calling off the fight saving his ass from further humiliation, and Prigo is Zuck the crazy ass white boy

These psyop theories are so wacky and they don't even make Russia look good imo. People really can't accept that sometimes things just happen.
If it was a Psy Op I don’t think Prigo would say these things:
Can’t find the direct quotes but that’s a pretty accurate summary of his message when he sent his lads to Moscow. Plus they destroyed more Russian aircraft in a day than Ukraine could ever dream of lol I don’t think Putin is at real risk of losing power over this but I find it hard to believe he’d accept being humiliated like that just for a Psy Op. If Putin was in on it he’d stick to just saying they weren’t getting enough support to execute their tactics properly, not that the entirE SMO was bullshit
