Within qBitTorrent go to settings, advanced, network interface and bind your VPN adapter to it. By doing this if the VPN cuts out no data is transferred because there's no connection for the program to make.

I personally don't seed much if I'm not torrenting from like, a private tracker or like a public site/tracker that is only doing eBooks or anime (Nyaa.si for example) as a rule because of this. Haven't ever gotten a letter from Suddenlink or AT&T in the 10+ years since.
Is it possible for your IP to nail you if you seed with your VPN off? I always get nervous about this
