They're going to give so many fuckin West Wing style speeches, you don't even know
But let's go down fighting
Libs in 2020 in a nutshell. Hey, winning doesn't matter as much as that we tried hard and did things the "right way".
-
these people don't have principles
-
they'll cry foul and start a shit show no matter what happens
-
control of the senate was given to a single asshole for some reason
I don't understand American politics: as the alpha male, why did Obama not simply eat Mcconnell?
-
No. They'll hold public cry ins. Socially distanced of course. Still won't advocate for anything concrete, though.
Quick offer to cut Social Security so the GOP doesn't elect a justice.
Ok so. Everyone give an outsider some perspective. It's fun to laugh at "let's go down fighting" because it sounds like they've already accepted that it's impossible for them to win but what would YOU do to stop this?
Serious question. What's the strategy to play here to actually block shit, grind it all to a halt and really fight? General strike? What else?
What should they be doing in this scenario that they're blatantly not doing so we can point that out to libs.
I mean, you say General Strike like that's the obvious but impossible answer. It is obvious, but it's definitely not impossible. If the libs really wanted to lead instead of die on their own sword for procedure, they would absolutely instigate a general strike. Labor IS what keeps things going, and if democrats did more than just kneel in performative solidarity, they could use their power and platforms to relentlessly call for the people to refuse to go to work until Republicans back down. The democrats could go on about how they'll do everything within their power to slow things down procedurally, but directly tell the American people that that's not enough. It's going to take more than a moment of silence, more than a march, and more than procedure to bring about justice in this country. Democrats could say to the American people that voting ain't gonna cut it, and politics requires more than checking some boxes every couple of years. Democrats could fill the void left by a neutered labor movement (which of course the democrats were responsible for facilitating), and act as an organizing hub and logistical support for the working class. A general strike could easily be organized if the democratic leadership came out in unified support, so we shouldn't treat it as some kind of infeasible pipe dream. That attitude is manufactured helplessness.
Democrats claim to be the party of labor, but they refuse to actually leverage the power of labor in even the most dire (for liberals) of circumstances. It's the ultimate evidence of their impotence and irrelevance, they cannot lead the people to reassert their power because that contradicts their own ideology. The working class is to be managed in the view of democrats, not empowered. To the people who feel powerless and leader less right now, point out how easy it would be for the democrats to use their supposed connections to labor to facilitate a strike, and help radicalize some new comrades.
No I definitely wasn't saying impossible, I just threw it out there as the obvious one I know of. I wanted to hear more options and I was being wholly serious with the post.
Good response, I appreciate it.
Gotcha I misread the tone. Glad you liked it all the same haha.
What they should be doing is acknowledging that our system is fundamentally broken and irredeemable and calling for change outside of electoralism. Which includes leading a general strike yes.
Or at the very least what they should be doing is physically blocking Republicans from entering the Senate, disturbing any attempted vote by drowning it out with noise, etc. As much as they can to make it literally impossible to approve someone. "Procedural obstacles" are easy to get around, physical obstacles not so much.
I mean you could physically stop a few senators from going to the capitol.Break their legs or whatever, IDK. Of course the yass-kween libs would probably do anything the republicans wanted out of sympathy if someone did that.
A general strike is the real answer. The dems would obviously never do that as they raelly don't care what happens. If their kid needs an abortion they'll just to go mexico like all the other rich WASPs do.
got to the first bullet point, started laughing. Hillary Clinton knows this won't do shit, literally this is just to keep the wine drinkers who watch MSNBC calm
