For me, the phone is much easier to just pick up and put down. Social media is essentially an infinite supply of <30 second entertainment, whereas a book will require me to recall what was going on last time I was reading and also find a good place to stop every time I read. With things like TikTok, that doesn't matter, I can just watch 40 videos in 20 minutes. There is no continuity required, which is great because half the time I can't even remember why I walked into the kitchen or something.
