honestly being able to listen to/watch/eat/do whatever i want while working is a decent chunk of the reason i'm going for remote jobs rn. i'm not going into a job that will feel like a fucking classroom

You can probably do phone or chat customer service and quietly listen to music through your headset or use bone conducting headphones or those Sony Linkbud donut earbuds to listen to music around your headset

in my industry independent vendors (people that drive their own delivery vehicles and stock sodas, chips, assorted treats) are allowed. in the grocery industry it's official policy to ban them but everyone uses them but that will vary store to store. my personal policy is wear them to stay sane as a manager i encourage it.

I'm an outside contractor that does on-site industrial troubleshooting and repairs. I'm at the mercy of the local policies for whatever business I'm at. However, I have a pair of earbuds that kinda look like a regular pair of earplugs and so far no one has ever said anything to me. I guess if a place requires earplugs, you could always try to fly under the radar with some earbuds.
