I watched the first 2 episodes of the new Futurama
Removed by modIts alright, I got a few decent chuckles. Nothing mindblowing so far or anything.
In the first episode there is a somewhat awkward @NonbinarySeinfeld@hexbear.net joke that killed me just because of hexbear.
7/10 would slop again
Doxxing me as a comedy writer on hex bear dot net.
Whaaat's the deal with scabs not supporting the writer's strike? I'll give them some more scabs to pick at.
Wouldn't this have been written/voiced before the strike?
seeing that emoji over there is what reminded me of the Decapodian flag.
A variation of the Matt Groening immortality curse. Rather than live forever like The Simpsons, Futurama is doomed to endlessly die and be brought back to life.
It doesn't die, it just gets stuck in a cryogenic chamber for a while.
ground hog day but every time your die you wake up from cryostatis in a new millennium
I haven't watched the second ep, but the speed at which it went from recap Fry and Leela's relationship as focus (like the feel of actual plot) to Fry being a self-centered idiot was kinda jarring.
On the one hand, hey, more new futurama! On the other, oh god, more new futurama...
I am going to have to disagree. I didn't find most of the jokes in the first episode that funny, second was better though.
Mostly I felt like the episodes were rushed and given a poor budget. There are scene changes with no expositional shot, plot lines are lackluster, scenes often don't have any background characters, shots feel static and not dynamic, and Leela hasn't kicked anybody yet. Pretty disappointed so far.
I expected it to be half-assed so that's probably why I'm not more disappointed. I think Leela did kick somebody, but you're not wrong about the rest really.
It was a 2000s show parodying the time and now it's kinda weird because the progression of the show is still relatively short (it's not explicitly 3023 in Futurama, right?) and the humor reflects what's popular around time of air date.
I don't think it's bad, but it's interesting to see how pop culture affects the continuity of a show that takes place in the future.
it's not explicitly 3023 in Futurama, right
Actually the first new episode explicitly states this
1 mostly a long walk about AI being bad at writing regardless of how much quicker it might be
spoiler
The 'empty suit' being due to bad AI writing is a good bit of subtle humor, like the 'empty suits' that cause 2nd season sickness etc.
2 is more classic endearing plot about parenthood, but it didn't have too much to say, so seemed to be a bit more filler overall in some ways
hopefully they can strike a balance between messaging and humor soon, I'm gonna be at the slop trough wishing for the best
hot take new futurama season is way better than the new venture bros movie
