I just want to read some in-depth, good solid journalism that is well written and researched.
It doesn’t have to be focused on current events, I’m also looking for places to read about like, science, tech, culture, etc.
Pls no places that knowingly, regularly platforms terfs or fash. Outlets that aren’t automatically accepting of capitalist/western imperialist narratives as a default would be a huge plus.
Naked Capitalism is an interesting one because it's pretty firmly in the left alt-media sphere but is critical to many of the other people inside it. I similarly don't always agree, but it's nice to have a counter-opinion on events ("No, this big breaking news isn't actually really that significant; no, this is going to take a lot longer than some on the hypetrain would have you believe; yes, there are in fact problems, serious ones even, with X country/organization" etc) from somebody who's got a lot of experience in economics and has been gazing into politics for at least a couple decades. My personal views on geopolitics have been swayed quite a lot by them.
It's worth noting that many, even most of their articles are sourced from other places (Yves is very open about this, does proper sourcing and everything, and adds her own viewpoint) but the others who contribute write some genuinely interesting and original pieces on basically the exact area of geopolitics and economics that I'm interested in.
just uh, don't pry too deeply into the comment section. On purely geopolitical issues there are some genuinely interesting takes and additions, but as soon as they start talking about the LGBTQIA+ movement, all the "wokeism is a disease" shit starts tumbling out. I think they're all essentially socdem/demsoc boomers, with all the pros and cons of that.
TBF I think a lot of that is critique of the performative pomp and circumstance of liberal PMC “diversity.” But yeah, I do get the feeling a good chunk of the readers are crusty lefty boomers, but not the hippie types, that seem to think talking about gays and minorities is what’s stopping a socdem wave from spreading over the rust belt.
