      To be fair, he wasn't arrested for that. He was arrested for the multi million dollar fraud and corruption scheme. That is just something CNN added in to bolster the "China is authoritarian" storyline.

      "The actions of the defendant Ren Zhiqiang constituted corruption, bribery, misappropriation of public funds and abuse of power, and he should be punished in accordance with the law," read the court ruling.

      Noting about him criticizing the party in the ruling.

      It's not surprising that a corrupt millionaire might also be an outspoken critic of a socialist party. In fact it would be weirder if he wasn't.
