Fuck me. I’ve been making my payments, it’s literally 6 months from being paid off. I called all the towing companies nearby and nothing. Now I’m gonna have to deal with cops and insurance and AAAAAAAA.

Has anyone had this happen before? Like does insurance normally pay for a rental?

I just wanted to vent ooooooooooooooh

Your level of insurance will determine whether they will pay for a rental.

Check your insurance documents. A claims adjuster will investigate to make sure it was actually stolen. You need to inform the cops since they’re the official word on the car. If the insurance decides it’s a loss then you will be asked to sign over ownership of the car to them so in the event it is found they have the title to it. They’ll give you market value plus sales tax (as if you bought the car today). So research to search for comparable vehicles (2016 accords with similar mileage and trim level) and save the searches to a PDF. If you have rental car coverage then they’ll set you up if not then you’re SOL. The process took me about 5 weeks. At least in Florida they’re obligated to do something about it within a relatively short timeframe

Thanks for the info! I had to Uber to work this morning so haven’t had a chance to talk to my insurance.

The process took me about 5 weeks.

      sadness

So probably less than I’ve paid towards it so far, fuuuck me.

Contact your insurance immediately or at least as soon as you get a police report. Lmk if you have other questions

Sometimes towing companies lie/don't keep track of what they tow. It might be worth going to where they keep the cars just to double check but that does suck, comrade meow-hug

    Wouldn't know, I've never owned a car.

    That sucks though.

2016 accord I got used, not push to start or anything fancy so it wasn’t like some Kia Boys shit. They must’ve done it the old fashioned way.

I’m still hoping it gets found but everyone is telling me how unlikely that is. I guess if I can find a cheap used electric, like maybe a Chevy Volt or something priced similar, I’d go for it.

Yeah I’ve only heard good things about it, especially considering the price range. Too bad it got discontinued.

2nded it's the most reliable and uncomfortable car you will ever own

I've put 50k on mine and have changed the oil once and just put on new tires. I did have to replace one battery cell at 85k miles for $2000. That's been it for maintenance.

The seats are really hard for me at least so I need aftermarket cushions for both back and bottom of the seat, my head is two inches from the top even though I'm 5'10", the ground clearance is two inches so you have to take speed bumps diagonally and at least on my model the backup camera is dog shit and climate control on pure electric mode isn't great

Still the best car I've ever owned though, it's just hyper optimized for fuel efficiency.

                    Lol pretty much

None of this stuff matters much though unless you drive a lot. Like if you have a super commute of 1h+ each way or drive for Uber or something.

Oh that's so fucking awful. Like other commenters said, it may be towed somewhere and just not on the paper. Insurance may pay for a rental depending on what insurance you have. If you have full coverage, they probably will. If you just have liability, you're SOL.

Insurance should likely pay or give a discount on a rental. Expect your rates to go up either way. Sorry for that shit.
