Have these centrists friends. They are actually pretty chill, give me a place to stay. But they're your typical Bill Maher Libs in a lot of ways

Anyway, some months ago I complained about their views on Israel, drunkenly called them unintentionally racist to a mutual friend, they found out and hated on me for a while.

So anyway, I've been spending time with them, and they legitimately hate Israel now. It's come up enough times that I can tell they legitimately hate them for being right wing.

Is there something happening in the Lib media bubble, or did they just actually realize Israel sucks? I know this is some nerd shit but it bothers me I can't wrap my head around it.

The liberal media bubble does not reflect the opinions of most progressives and liberals.

The media is fanatically pro-Israel, regardless of their ongoing genocide against the Palestinians. The general population is opposed to the ongoing genocide. They're upset with the US government, and the Biden administration, for enabling and supplying Israel.

Liberal cable news is starting to notice it's severely hurting Bidens reelection chances, so they're testing the waters on being anti-Israel. Israel has its own lobbying arm in the US and is trying to paint anyone who is anti-Israel as anti-semetic which is not true.

This has been my experience as well, I overheard an older guy rant about immigrants ruining the country and the Palestinian genocide in the same sentence (and it didn't sound antisemitic, they focused on Palestine and talked about Israel instead of Jews)

I think people are genuinely starting to see through the propaganda, and most regular people don't actually want genocide despite their bigotry or biases

The IDF repeatedly drone-striking the aid organization that it specifically chose to deliver aid was really the turning point, at least in the liberal sphere.

Liberals are generally pro-war before or while it's happening, and anti-war after their side has killed a bunch of people and they start feeling the guilt of their previous opinions. See: Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq again, Libya, Syria, etc.

It's some weird Christian shit where the small and weak are inherently pure and virtuous or something

I dunno, I've seen the liberals become exceedingly more bloodthirsty and barbaric in their rhetoric as the genocide progresses. They all also suddenly want to drink industrial quantities of Starbucks and buy shit from Zara.

They are indistinguishable from the Nazis during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, or the Apartheid police especially in the 1970s-80s. Only difference is they themselves lack firearms or pipebombs.

Yeah it's not like that at all here, which is why I want to give them credit. They basically consider Israel a trumpy racist shithole

Have you talked to them about their obvious 180? Usually people brush aside their change in opinion if it was just handed down to them, so I doubt you will get any fruitful answers. But it might be at least funny to point this out to them. And report back here with the results lenin-laugh

As libs are incapable of ever being wrong, if they were wrong in the past then it's history that has to change. Therefore, none of them will remember ever having been wrong.

memory? consistency? the most important thing is that I maintain to myself the illusion that I'm a good person and my privilege is deserved

Internet liberals are insane when it comes to Israel but IRL support for Israel is almost always tepid and passive at best in my experience.

Netanyahu and many Israeli people are pro Trump, anti Biden. Liberal media cocksucking is probably the only thing that kept them in that pro Israel position in the first place.

The vast majority of normies knew next to nothing about israel/Palestine prior to Oct 7th or just know it's a conflict and had been for a long time, don't know the ins and outs but tend to default towards Islamophobia. That being said, they aren't heartless, just ignorant and when a bad thing is shown to be really bad for a really long time, people will get there. Genocide is a deal breaker for a lot of people and when it's super obviously happening, people will oppose it, at least like, in opinion, they won't do anything.

Statistically, I'm pretty sure support for Israel has dropped overall compared to what it was before Oct 7. Even if there was a spike in support immediately after Al-Aqsa Flood the fact is the news from Gaza is consistently horrifying and the Israelis themselves are consistently bloodthirsty and no amount of mainstream media spin can change what people have been seeing on social media nonstop for months.

Compared to the eventual turn on the Iraq War, this one has happened pretty quickly.

The support for Israel was always inflated by all the money Sheldon Adelson et al pumped into pro-Israel propaganda. I explained the situation to my boomer reactionary parents and in 15 minutes they were anti-Israel and at least supported a two state solution, they just knew literally nothing about it.

It’s just that horrific right now and support for Israel was always super soft that anyone with even a fraction of a conscious can’t support Israel.
