    This vaguely relates to something I learned the other day: traditional Madagascan names are all mononyms (as in no first name, middle name, surname, it's just one singular name) and can be extremely long like Andrianampoinimerina. Wonder how much accidental filibustering roll call would be for a class of Madagascan exchange students. Someone gets it wrong and is legally mandated to try again, lmao

      It is an example of an extreme restriction of free speech and control that is more totalitarian than propaganda about AES. Of course it is discriminatory against various language principles. In that sense it is a continuity with the want to control of elites, be they feudal or capitalist, and it is also a continuity to genocidal colonialist expansions and forced "assimilation" of people.
