Let's be real tho, they're not trying to avoid Long Covid either.
I feel weird reading about the current moment being in parallel with other pandemics where people try to completely memory hole the entire event. I just don't have that experience. The pandemic was a singularly illustrative moment where we got to watch the system we live under actually act and react instead of maintaining the status quo.
Sure, but you also saw them sociologically end the pandemic with the context of understanding how media and power can maintain a cultural hegemony, right? A lot of people lack the same context that gives us the ability to view the flow of information as an outsider. We've been exposed to enough Parenti, Chomski, and hypocrisy that gives us a stable footing while they've gotten washed away in the flood of information.
I guess they somehow convince themselves that the odds of getting long covid from covid are much lower than 10% and just figure 'oh well I'll be sick for an extra 2 weeks but I can enjoy all my treats for the rest of the year, good deal' ... the virus also thinks this is a good deal btw
though from a 'capitalist workforce overseer' perspective long covid leading to a larger and larger disabled workforce means they might get a lightbulb flashing at some point, or.. they will just dip into child labor more and more as replacement, classic move, run the other way
100,000 excess deaths a year
Not fast enough
