Using aesthetic signifiers of former socialist/communist states is harmful to the aims of communism. It's literally aesthetic conservatism. We are looking to forge a New, Classless, Stateless World. It will not and cannot resemble the Soviet Union because what's past is past. This preoccupation with historic signifiers demonstrates a deep lack of imagination for the future and a naive nostalgia for a past that never was and never will be again. This is worsened by the Beatification of historical Communist figures, and obsessing over their theory and image.

Of course we must learn from history and we always stand on the shoulders of giants, but Communism in the 21st Century requires 21st Century Theory, Tactics, and Aesthetic that will appeal to the Proletariat of TODAY. Not the aesthetics of naval-gazing Posters.

This was indeed a good choice. Naming the website after a particular podcast was not.

We own the hexbear domains too. We could switch eventually. I don't know what others think of this. But right now we're still profiting from the name recognition to be honest.

I think it's good because it's easier for people from the subreddit to identify. I would've had no idea what hexbear means if I wasn't on the discord

Yeah the Hexbear is okay as far as mascots go, but it's also a weak unclear brand. I personally kinda like the name of the old Chapo discord: Dirtbag HQ. But if the Chapo.chat name/brand gets dropped, it'll have to be replaced with something at least vaguely leftist-sounding.

To [DEAD HISTORICAL FIGURE]-ists, theory is something you read about, rather than create and enact. Science doesn't just stop.

Is there anywhere that this type of theory is being formed and discussed around the material conditions of today? Is there a Community for this? I'm especially interested in the potentials of new technological relations such as open source, cooperatives, 3D printing, maker spaces etc... It seems that we are always reacting to the fascist spectacle rather than carving out a new way of organizing and becoming

Yes glad this space has formed- def enjoy the shit talk ;) Still figuring this site out too, wondering if there's any subtopic for this kind of brainstorming, maybe a Synthesis Board? I've got a bunch of open software and graphic visualization skills like mapping spaces and diagramming complex ideas can put to some good use

The General Intellect Unit discord is fairly legit. But yeah, we need more of the above for sure. We need to be actively encouraging the development of new Theory and Praxis outside of the academy. I think that's kinda the goal of Catalyst magazine also.
