Even if you measure it by ”successful at liberal democracy” terms.

  • Her entire career only got off the ground because of her husband

  • Became a senator, which, to her credit, was a position she actually managed to get by being elected! capitaldcolon

  • She was handily beaten by Obama in 2008 despite her having been a public figure for much longer and the name recognition of being an ex-president's wife

  • Got a pity position as secretary of state, nobody remembers anything except Benghazi and ”we came, we saw, he died”

  • Managed to lose an election to trump-moist of all people despite having the entire establishment on her side

Wow, truly an inspiring career worthy of being the queen of libs.

That first bullet point is false? I'm not going to argue that HRC is great or something, but she likely would have still had a lot of success without Bill. She graduated from law school at Yale and accomplished a lot before they got married and before he was even governor. Maybe she wouldn't have made it into the Senate without Bill, but saying her success was only because of Bill honestly reeks of misogyny

I meant her political career, which probably should've been clearer. I don't think any of that happens without her marriage - maybe she could've been in Congress or Senate like many rich people, but secretary of state or actual presidential candidate contender? No way.

Why not? Do you know much about her early life? She was very obviously interested in a political career and in some ways moving to Arkansas and marrying Bill likely changed her trajectory a lot. Can you actually make the connection and point to some specific events that show how Bill helped her? How do we know Bill would have been prez without Hillary?

I'm not trying to just be an asshole about it, but you might genuinely want to consider why you think these things. There's nothing wrong with disliking HRC (obviously) or recognizing that she's not actually so great at politics, but to suggest her political career hinges on her husband is fucked and even if it's not coming from a place of misogyny it will seem that way to a lot of others

The Benghazi scandal was pretty ridiculous.

Rethuglicans: "Oh nooooooo, some war criminals died? This is the worst thing evarrrrrr!"

Also rethuglicans: "Bombing a prosperous country back into the stone age? They're brown, so who gives a shit?"

Literally I've made the same point to others. Hilary is literally the only person on the planet capable of losing an election to a buffoon like Trump. She could have easily won by expressing the slightest iota of humanity, and that was a challenge too great for her
